OCTOBER 2011
Water levels have risen to just about maximum pool with the combined inflow from the spillway and the removal of excess water from the farm via the pumping station. Along with the influx of water has come winds that have stirred the waters to a much darker and muddied appearance.
However, this on most days has not altered some pretty fantastic catches. Days of catches ranging from 30 to over 100 bass have been somewhat common. The big fish are on the move and will soon find their way south in preparation for the upcoming spawn.
The best baits and rigs have been plastics on both c-rigs and t-rigs as well as small crank baits in both billed and non-billed types. If working current the c-rigs and crank baits have been producing.
Although at this time live wild shiners will produce they may not be as effective as artificial baits. The muddied waters are requiring precise placement of baits and they will be more visible as they pass the nose of the bass. Shiners tend to sit still in these conditions making it difficult for the bass to sense their presence.
